Maxi Dresses & Army Shirt

First lot of my early autumn sewing projects. :)

Maxi dress made in satin fabric. The pattern is from Burda 4/2014 magazine. I sewn this dress as a birthday gift for my sister. She picked the pattern and fabrics herself. This is the second dress I made using this pattern, you can see the first one in here. This dress is sewn on Henrietta, overlocked on Bebe and hemmed on Cornelia

Happy owner of the dress. :) My sister <3

My sister is a talented musician and she can wear this dress for her concerts as well as for casual events.

Another maxi dress for myself this time. I had this viscose fabric for this dress for a while and didn´t get to sew it. When I was starting to sew dress for my sister, I figured why not sew this one simultaneously? Having a few machines I don´t have to change the thread color for another project so it was easy sewing them along. This one is sewn on Agatha.

Men´s army shirt in medium weight fabric for heavy use. The pattern is from the book Burda Style- Sewing Vintage Modern. This is a modern interpretation on men´s 1940´s shirt. I really enjoyed sewing this one, so many intricate details! :)

Shirt is hemmed on Cornelia with 3 different shades of thread to give the stitching ombre effect.

1940´s collars were so much more stylish then modern tiny ones! :)

Slip dress made in stretch-satin fabric with lace trims. The pattern is from Burda 7/2013 magazine. Slippery stretch-satin fabric was a bit difficult to work with, especially delicate shoulder straps. I made this dress to be worn underneath sheer dresses.

 Lace trim detail.

Stretch-satin top from the same magazine as the slip dress. This top is meant to be worn underneath sheer blouses that I love! I have quite a few chiffon fabrics in my stash waiting to be sewn. Both slip dress and top were sewn on Fiona.

Autumn coat made in college fabric. The pattern is from Burda 9/2013 magazine. I absolutely had to buy this fabric, the print is so beautiful! This coat is sewn mainly on Bebe and details such as pockets are sewn with Henrietta.

Summer sewing vol. 4

Last lot of my summer sewing. September has been so far unusually warm but you can feel the autumn is definitely on it´s way. Lovely wools and tweeds, plaids and fake fur fabrics are waiting for me...

Bat-wing maxi dress in print satin and plain satin fabrics. Pattern is from Burda 6/2013 magazine. This dress has a seam under the bat-wing sleeve so it is figure hugging around hips. If you are making this dress, try it on and make fitting adjustments if necessary before sewing this seam ;)

Back view. I like how the fabric flows on this dress.

A detail of the fabric. Lovely print!

1960`s tunic made in cotton satin fabric. Pattern is from the book The Great British Sewing Bee.

Nice decorative zip on the back. I sewn the tunic so I get to use this zip!

Dress in satin fabric. Pattern is from Burda 3/2015 magazine. A very comfy dress I wear a lot. :)

I love the print of this fabric. Obviously I´m into flower print ;)

1920´s midi dress made in viscose fabric. Dropped waistline typical for 1920´s. Pattern is from Burda 4/2015 magazine. This dress has large side-godets with round hem that are longer than hem in front and back of the dress. Nice, comfy pattern.

A chiffon skirt I made for a friend. I drafted the pattern myself. Skirt is 3/4 length with a side slit and attached lining made in linen fabric in mini length.

Vintage nightie. The pattern is from Burda 12/2014 magazine.

If you are making this one, I suggest you make some serious adjustments to the bustier. It is very squashing even when I made it one size bigger. It is lined, the upper ruffle is sewn in between and under bust it forms a tube for the elastic so it isn´t possible to do any adjustments to it anymore. I overlocked the seams...
The hem has a tiny slit on both sides and a ruffle. I love those!

Summer sewing vol.3

Summer arrived in Finland a bit late this year. Whole july was nicely cold and now in august we have to deal with unpleasant warmth. ;) A true Indian summer. Despite of weather I have had a great summer spent with my dear family and friends. I haven´t get to sew as much but I hope autumn will arrive soon and sewing in a cooler conditions will be more pleasant. :)

My first leggings! A great pattern from the book The Great British Sewing Bee- Sew your own wardrobe. Sewn on Bebe, waistband and hem on Cornelia. Made in velvet jersey fabric.

Another leggings made for my friend using shiny jersey fabric.

Capri trousers made in slightly stretchy woven cotton fabric. Pattern is from the book The Great British Sewing Bee- Fashion with fabric. These trousers are very comfy. I plan to make another pair slightly shorter. I already have the fabric for them! ;)

Pastel yellow blouse with buttoned sleeve in woven cotton fabric. Pattern is from Burda 6/2015 magazine.
A detail of the button-band.

Interesting collar.

Matching skirt with side-button opening. Pattern is from the same magazine.

Can be worn as a set or separately. I loved sewing these, it was great fun!

Summer sewing vol.2

Here is another lot of pictures of my recently finished garments. These have been sewn in June.

1950's Petticoat. The pattern is from the book Burda Style: Sewing Vintage. I used stiffed tulle for this one and it works really well. I had this project on my to do list for a long time. You really need one for 1950's dresses, don´t you? ;)

Here is another version of the same pattern. For this one I used soft tulle I had as a remnant from another project. As you can see it doesn´t work as well. Soft tulle doesn´t keep the shape as much as the stiff one. I doubt wearing this would make any difference to the silhouette of the dress. But still, accessory then...

Bowling shirt made in quilt weight cotton. This pattern is from the book The Great British Sewing Bee - Sew Your Own Wardrobe. Oh how I love all the books in this series! This shirt is very comfy yet smart-I mean the cut. If you´re wondering about that pattern... Yes, those are skulls. Yes, it´s a bit weird. But the white collar and cuffs tones it down a bit, doesn´t it? :)

Jersey top. This pattern is from Burda 5/2014 magazine.

A chiffon blouse I made for my friend. I drafted this blouse myself at her request. It took only one meter of fabric. :)

1970's tube dress made in linen fabric and embellished with embroidered and beaded ribbon. The pattern is from Burda 7/2013. This is a modified version of it, made for a friend. Great pattern, this is 3rd dress I made using it and more to come...

Neon hoodie... AT LAST! I had the materials for this hoodie since summer 2013 and I finally got to sew it now two years later. The silver braid ribbon was really tricky to work with. I broke 2 needles and bent one sewing this! And I never break needles, I only broke one years ago sewing some super thick home dec fabric... Well, but no harm done, the hoodie is finished and I love it! :)

Summer sewing vol.1

I have been trying to sew away my fabric stash. I get easily carried away in fabric store... I still have quite a bit of fabric left to sew so you´ll be seeing more ;) Here are some more pictures of my recently finished projects:

Lace blouse with gathered fronts. Pattern is from Burda 3/2013, one of my favorite issues of this magazine ;)

Viscose dress from Burda 3/2014 magazine. This was super tricky to sew! Bustier has a million parts and it is lined so there´s another million parts to sew. Luckily the flower pattern I chose, is forgiving and I didn´t have to worry about matching it. But imagine something like a cherry pattern, that would be impossible to match in countless seams in this bustier!

Dirndl skirt made in gingham and dupion taffeta fabrics. The apron is attached to the skirt all the way around. The pattern is from Burda 9/2014.

Dirndl dress with button fastening made in cotton. The pattern is also from Burda 9/2014. Bodice and sleeves are embellished with piping. Tip! If you plan to sew buttonholes on piped-edge garment, trim the piping´s seam allowance to minimum so that the machine´s buttonhole foot won´t hit the extra layers.

Dress can be worn with apron for a folk look.

Detail of the decorative topstitching. I used embroidery thread.

Full-skirted dress made in gingham. The pattern is from The Great British Sewing Bee - Sew Your Own Wardrobe. I love this book and the series as well. The patterns are timeless yet vintage inspired. I lengthened the skirt quite a bit and made the fit-adjustments. Great pattern, I will be make more of these 50´s style dresses!

Boyfriend shirt made in cotton blend fabric. This pattern is from the first Great British Sewing Bee book.

Cook´s apron made in quilt-weight cotton fabrics. This pattern is also from the first Great British Sewing Bee book. This is my first apron! Finally I can cook without worrying that my clothes get messed. :) This is really lovely pattern with vintage elements.
